Chapter Five
Three Days Later
I open my eyes as a bright afternoon light comes crashing in through the windows. My head is pounding, and I automatically want to fall right back to sleep, when I suddenly realize I’m not where I last remember being.
The final memory that comes to my mind is Ginevra spinning fiercely above me. After that it was lights out. How did I get here?
I look around me and notice that I am in a bed, soft and cozy, with blankets covering my now clothed body. The veil from the Sea Witch is still wrapped around my breasts, but a pretty light pink nightgown made of silk covers my body. I furrow my brows, not knowing what to think. How am I here?
I’m in a master bedroom probably the entire size of what was my parents’ home. There are three ceiling to floor windows across from me, the slightly drawn lush velveteen curtains an amethyst hue. The lavish decor about the room screams money and wealth, and I imagine I have somehow stumbled upon some poor fool who probably had felt nothing but pity on me. I can imagine what I had looked like when he or she found me at the edge of the shore, looking a hot mess, naked besides the veil covering my breasts.
I swing my feet to one side, placing them on the soft white and purple rug. As I go to stand up, I immediately fall to the ground with a loud thud. I need to learn how to use my legs once more.
“Is that you, Miss?”
I hear a voice coming from outside the room, but the door is completely shut. I don’t know who is there, but it sounds oddly familiar. I rise to my feet, holding on to the bed for balance.
I need to be on my way and not trouble these people, whoever they might be. My first order of business once I get out of here is to try and find Dalton. After all, that was the sole purpose of my wish. I’ll find him and let him know that I was the one who saved him. He’ll remember me and be so happy that he’s found me and then he’ll ask me why I ran away. I’ll tell him I got spooked by his dog, I’m not a dog person, and ran away. Then he’ll fall in love with me, we’ll get married, and live happily ever after.
Yeah, that was the way I pictured it all going in my mind. If by chance this all somehow didn’t work, I knew what I would have to do. I’d get on the first flight back home, because Lord knows there are no places like this by where I used to live, and get back to my old life. Maybe I can beg my boss to give me my old job back.
I’ll find Danny and tell him I’m glad he apologized, but that I have moved on. Then maybe I’ll call some of my friends and meet up with them for a bite to eat and some drinks.
